Description
Characteristics:
- Annual crop.
- Winter type; needs a long cold spell to go to seed. Can be planted much earlier in the year than Spring types.
- Prostrate growth habit; suitable for grazing.
- Early plantings are ready for grazing within 60 days. Rotational graze for best results.
- Grain is of great value to ruminants and has a crude protein of 10-13%.
- Stooling Rye can be used for grazing, hay, silage, and grain feed.
- Often used as nurse crop with early established ryegrass to increase TDM content.
- Drought tolerant.
- Offers greater flexibility with fodder flow.
